Autumn Begins

"People come and go in your life but they never leave your dreams. Once they are in your subconscious, they are immortal." -Hampl

What's beautiful about playing the second movement of Schubert's Death and the Maiden is the way in which the piece changes. The beginning: timid, desolate, broken yet weak. Growing into anger, pain, the raw intensity of suffering. Longing at times, but only turning into despair. It's easy to get pulled into the flames of agitation, yet it is the ending that strikes me the most. Suddenly the pain dissipates, the pace slows and, despite all the minor, down-trodden melodies, a new key emerges--angelic, fragile, yet desperately hopeful. It is beauty beyond words.

Also beautiful: the change of season, good books, having a job to keep me occupied, walking to work, baking, and life in general. Trying not to forget that existence is finite and we all just end up where we started:
