Wine, Cheese, and a Dash of Brahms

Yesterday inaugurated my return back to chamber music, albeit just a short reading of one of Mozart's viola quintets. Yes, I can only play using half of a bow, and yes, it is slightly awkward and cumbersome, but the joy of music-making with such wonderful people is just incomparable. Such beautiful music, and such beautiful people! It was truly a joyful evening.

The core quartet (i.e. minus crippled violist) also had a chance to read through a contemporary piece called "Krab Baleto", written by our guest violinist, a composer and conductor from Portland. A challenging piece--and at the end of a long night of reading--yet something we will hopefully have a chance to perfect in the future:
